Proven Ways Data Loggers Provide Assistance in Laboratory Monitoring

Posted on

Laboratory monitoring can be complicated and ever-changing when it comes to things like meeting specified temperature ranges, ensuring sterilization, and dealing with regulated guidelines. With the right insight, laboratory monitoring can help save lives by assisting with tracking, detecting, and preventing any change in temperature, air quality, or distribution to consumers of vital pharmaceuticals such as vaccines and medicines.

Dealing with critical products and with simply too much at stake, it’s important that laboratories understand the need to use digitally automated monitoring devices in order to closely track the conditions of their control rooms, shipping, and storage areas.

In a laboratory setting, data loggers are used to measure a variety of parameters including:

  • Sterilization
  • Vaccine Monitoring
  • Cold Chain Processing
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Lyophilization

Data loggers can be used in a variety of sterilization methods with coverage spanning throughout Ethylene Oxide (EO) sterilization, steam sterilization, and dry heat sterilization. Sterilization data loggers provide accuracy and reliability, with some reaching temperatures as high as 260 °C.

Vaccine and pharmaceutical monitoring are crucial components in the prevention and containment of diseases. Without vaccines being carefully handled and kept at certain temperatures, they can ultimately turn to be ineffective or lose potency.  With MadgeTech’s VTMS Data Logger and Monitoring System, laboratories are able to view continuous measured data of sensitive vaccines or pharmaceuticals that are stored in freezers, coolers or refrigerators. Data is then transmitted directly onto a connected PC where it can be further analyzed.

In cold chain processing, laboratories are responsible for receiving, storing, and shipping pharmaceuticals that may need constant temperature monitoring. MadgeTech’s Cryo-Temp Data Logger ensures validation where products being stored and transported need to be within regulated temperatures. The Cryo-Temp features high and low alarm limits, notifying users when temperatures are out of their specified ranges. The device can collect the data as it is being used and send it to the MadgeTech cloud to be tracked.

Lyophilization (also known as freeze drying), keeps the product temperature low enough during the process to avoid changes in the dried product. This method is used to preserve laboratory pharmaceuticals and heat-sensitive materials. The LyoTemp Data Logger is ideal for monitoring products during the lyophilization process and can record temperatures as low as -60 °C.
